Fire Point Completes Testing of FP-9 Ballistic Missile, Prepares for Next Phase, Testing on Russia!

KYIV — Ukrainian private defense contractor Fire Point has completed ground testing of its long-range FP-9 ballistic missile and is preparing for upcoming flight trials, CEO Iryna Terekh announced on August 21, 2026, according to reports by UNN.

While initial reports suggested the missile had completed its entire testing cycle, Terekh clarified that the completed phase refers strictly to static "on-the-ground" testing, according to UNN.

The FP-9 has not yet conducted its first physical flight because the company is still casting the missile's 4.6-ton solid-fuel engine, as reported by The Defence Blog.

The upcoming launches, which Terekh stated would take place over enemy territory in the near future, will serve as the system's first active flight trials, according to NOELREPORTS According to social media video reports, the push to operationalize these missiles comes amid devastating Russian strikes on civilian infrastructure, including a ballistic attack on Borispil that killed one person and a drone strike in Mykolaiv oblast that killed three children, as reported by Ukraine War News Update.

Fire Point CEO Iryna Terekh says FP-9 has finished ground tests and field testing in Russia is next, soon. She says their systems run 5 to 20 missions a day and they are already working on a longer-range FP-9.

Fire Point's shorter-range sister missile, the FP-7, has already undergone approximately 15 test launches and is currently undergoing state certification, according to UNN.

The FP-9 is designed to carry an 800 kg warhead to a range of 850 kilometers at speeds exceeding Mach 7, according to The Defence Blog.

Physical mockups of both the FP-9 and the FP-7 were publicly exhibited at the DALO Industry Days in Herning, Denmark, on August 18–19, 2026, confirming the physical reality of the hardware, as reported by NOELREPORTS on Mastodon.

The development of these long-range systems represents a significant effort by Ukraine's domestic defense sector to establish deep-strike capabilities independent of Western weapon restrictions, according to United24 Media.

Fire Point is actively working on an extended-range variant of the FP-9 alongside the base model, according to a corporate statement on Facebook.

The company intends to conduct the first flight test of the FP-9 in autumn 2026, targeting Russian territory to validate the system under combat-like conditions, as reported by The Defence Blog.

The upcoming flight trials will mark Ukraine's first operational deployment of a domestically produced long-range ballistic missile capable of reaching Moscow, according to The Defence Blog.
